LIMS organized a 2-day online training for cohorts 1 and 2 as part of Tripoli’s Youth Activism for Lebanese Accountability (YALA) program. The exercises took place on March 22 and 28 for cohort 1, which had 19 participants, and on March 25 and 30 for cohort 2 with 18 participants. The training discusses democracy and civil participation, through an introduction to democracy and a conversation about citizenship, the importance of rules of law, governance, democratic actors, elections, media and violence against women. Mr. Mohammad Ayoub, founder, and director of the Nahnoo organization was the facilitator and helped participants apply the concepts to the case of Lebanon. In Day 1, the discussion focused on the role played by religion and sectarianism in Lebanese politics and its impact on the democratic process and institutions. Day 2, focused on local authorities, municipal elections and role of the civil society. The training also provided participants with tool which allow them to be effectively working together.
