For decades, government policies in Lebanon compounded the struggles of everyday citizens. That got worse in 2020, when the Central Bank Subsidy Program devastated the economy, leading to empty shelves, soaring inflation, and widespread poverty. But thanks to the efforts of the Lebanese Institute for Market Studies (LIMS)—supported by Atlas Network—Lebanon is turning the tide.
Through their “Subsidy Free Lebanon” campaign, LIMS exposed the CBSP’s $6 billion toll and its disastrous impact on Lebanese families. Bolstered by over 1,000 media appearances in 2021 alone, their advocacy led to the gradual repeal of subsidies and price controls on essential goods, the stabilization of the currency, and an unprecedented zero-deficit budget in 2024.
For these groundbreaking achievements, LIMS was named the winner of Atlas Network’s 2024 Templeton Freedom Award, recognizing their success in advancing liberty and economic freedom in one of the world’s most challenging environments.
But Lebanon’s journey to recovery is far from over. As regional instability looms, LIMS continues to defend free-market principles, paving the way for lasting peace and prosperity.
