LIMS Leaders’ Academy – LLA 201: Economic Foundations of Prosperity

LIMS organized an in-person workshop on February 18, 2023, at the Hilton Metropolitan Hotel in Beirut. The workshop gathered 13 candidates for the 2022 parliamentary elections, 4 representatives of members of parliament (MPs), and 4 political activists.

The first session presented the results of the study conducted by LIMS on the lessons from the 2022 general elections and the way forward.
In the second session, MP Elias Jaradeh and MP Waddah Sadek discussed strategies for recovering depositors’ money that were lost during the banking crisis. MTV anchor, Nakhle Odaime facilitated the discussion.
The third session was about the electricity crisis and the need for a structural reform in the sector. Speakers for this session were Dr. Jean Ellieh, president of the Public Procurement Authority, and Elie Gereige, the engineer responsible for implementing and managing the Toula solar farm. Bassam Abou Zeid, a TV anchor from LBCI, moderated the session.

Finally, Dr. Rajaa Charrif, director of public accounting at the Ministry of Finance, and Dr. Sami Nader, director of the Political Science Department at Saint Joseph University in Beirut, spoke at the last session. They discussed the lack of governance, accountability, and independence in public schools. The session was moderated by Khaled Abou Chakra, a TV anchor from Al Jadeed.
