With the theme centering on viable strategies to confront these hurdles, Dr. Mardini unveiled a youth-focused survey, laying bare the foremost concerns afflicting this demographic. Topping the list were unemployment, currency devaluation, and subpar electricity services – all issues that bear tangible repercussions on daily life. These concerns were notably pivotal in fanning the flames of the 2019 uprising, as impassioned youth fervently rallied for transformative change. However, the fervor was met with physical assaults from proponents of entrenched political factions, a backdrop that paved the way for subsequent crackdowns by security forces. These responses catalyzed a dent in the optimism of young individuals, casting shadows over their aspirations for catalytic reform. Consequently, many disillusioned youths shifted their sights overseas.

Dr. Mardini also charted potential solutions, proposing a multi-faceted approach. He pinpointed the necessity to dismantle the monopolies governing internet and electricity provisions within Lebanon. Such a course of action would not only enhance the quality of life but also potentially facilitate remote employment opportunities for youth with foreign entities. Additionally, he advocated for the streamlining of the cumbersome and time-intensive procedures entailed in starting a business. A paradigm shift that permits young entrepreneurs to embark on their business endeavors right from their own living spaces would obviate the need for them to resort to emigration. Finally, a sound monetary policy is required to stop currency devaluation.

The convergence of good internet connectivity, reliable electricity services, simplified bureaucratic pathways and sound money would seamlessly amplify both work productivity and overall quality of life for young individuals grappling with Lebanon’s economic challenges. The juxtaposition of these measures forms a comprehensive roadmap towards restoring the buoyancy and dynamism within the younger demographic, while concurrently reinvigorating the nation’s outlook.
