Here are our main activities for December 2017
LIMS Leaders Academy - Graduation Ceremony
Dec 15, 2017 - Phoenicia Hotel, Lebanon

8 high-achieving staff and activists from 5 major Lebanese parties: Future, Azm, Kataeb, Lebanese Forces and Ahrar, graduated from LIMS Leaders Academy – LLA.  LIMS was particularly honored to have as keynote speaker Ms. Li Zhao Schoolland who reminded the audience of the horrors of communism and the importance of freedom. The program was organized in partnership with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation.

LIMS Leaders Academy - LLA 401 Policy Fair  
Dec 15, 2017 - Le Commodore Hotel, Lebanon

15 staff and activists of major Lebanese political parties argued for market oriented policy propositions and discussed their suggested reforms with 50 members of liberal youth and students organizations from across the world. Propositions included: replacing public schools with a voucher system; setting up a free economic zone; joining the WTO; opening the electricity market to competition; and resolving the traffic problem.

China’s Economy - A series of Roundtables with Lebanese Political Parties
Dec 12 - 27, 2017 - Lebanon

LIMS hosted Ms. Li Zhao Schoolland, a freedom champion from China, and Mr. Ken Schoolland, the Director of the Entrepreneurship Center at Hawaii Pacific University, for 4 roundtables with political parties. Li discussed the transition of China from communism and famine to capitalism and prosperity and Ken emphasized on the importance of internal Chinese migration. Parties included: Democratic Renewal, Lebanese Forces, Azm and Future.
 
Business Friendly Reforms: The Case of Lebanon
Dec 8 - 9, 2017, Arab Liberty Festival - Morocco

Dr. Patrick Mardini, President of LIMS, related rent seeking behavior and bad infrastructure in Lebanon to the need of maintaining peace. He stressed on the importance of working with policy makers in order to achieve tangible market friendly results. The Arab Liberty Festival is organized by Minbar Al Hurriya and the Arab CSR and brings together leading activists, scholars, and businessmen from around the world.

Empowering Youth and Women in the Arab World Though Economic Reforms
Nov 30 - Dec 7, 2017 - Averroes Academy, Morocco

Mr. Majdi Aref, Policy Analyst at LIMS, discussed effective ways to promote economic freedom in the Arab World with 18 activists from different civil society groups in the MENA region. He emphasized on the importance of producing policy research and engaging youth from political parties in the advocacy process. The workshop was organized by the Arab Center for Scientific Research and Humane Studies.

The Vital Role of Think Tanks in Local Communities
Dec 10, 2017 - Ibn Tofail University, Morocco

Dr. Patrick Mardini and Mr. Majdi Aref were invited to discuss the role of locally grown think tanks in the Broader field of international development. The event was hosted by Eirene Associates at the Ibn Tofail University in Morocco. Both Dr. Mardini and Mr. Aref insisted on the negative effects government intervention has on economic growth and freedom.
